Do you have any 40k channels you recommend and channels you recommend to avoid? (aka the assholes). I watch only Bricky (recap videos especially to first get in) and a few painting channels but I wanted to follow a few more
I don’t frequently engage with 40k YouTube, so my knowledge on it is (mercifully) limited.
Recommend a lot: Oculus Imperia (HIGH quality lore done in character)
Recommend: Snipe & Wib (hobby-based content), Arbitor Ian (40k generalist), 40k Theories (what it sounds like), PancreasNoWork (humourous generalised lore)
Don’t Recommend: Arch (Nazi), Majorkill (Edgelord Grifter), Border Prince (Total Bigot).

As a transformers fan I love robots who have divorce drama stretching millions of years but also have a body count in the trillions. Thus it has taken little convincing but I think I shall investigate these undead robots.
In the event of my death I'm Telling. This is your fault. How do I start wading into this mess bc my only encounter with Warhammer was when a very drunk frat guy tried to explain the horus heresy at a party.
Well you are in for a treat then! Robots with marriage/divorce drama, severe mental health issues, and body counts best measured on a planetary scale are our specialty in Chez Necron.
If you want a setting overview before you dive in, Bricky's two part series going over all the factions is quite solid. Long, but hey this has been around since the 80s. (no drunken Horus Heresy rambles*)
First, watch this clip of Trazyn the Infinite, as an amuse bouche before your meal.
As for books, there are two main places I'd start for necrons:
The Infinite and the Divine- the classic starting point for necrons (and 40k in general). Trazyn the Infinite, lord of the Prismatic Galleries, battles against Orikan the Diviner, master chronomancer and prophet. Clash of godlike beings over...what amounts to a magic Rubik's Cube. It's so petty. This fight spans epochs, multiple wars, and one legal case. There's no heterosexual explanation for their dynamic. Also this book has dinosaurs. Some of whom carry shuriken canons.
Now, this book has a ton of 40k stuff. Most major factions make an appearance so there's a very good chance there will be words/things that a new person is unfamiliar with. If that doesn't bother you, awesome! Proceed. Ask me things, I'll explain that an aeldar is just a space elf or whatever. Or watch a lore vid beforehand. However if that is a turn off I'd recommend starting with...
Severed- Novella, so shorter which is nice. Do you like angst? The horrors of immortality? Lord/knight love story? One very silly guy? Then meet Zahndrekh and his loyal bodyguard Obyron as they set out to conquer a planet where the necrons are...wrong. Complicating factors include Obyron's crippling depression, Zahndrekh's asshole ex, and the fact Zahndrekh is insane and believes them all to still be the creatures of flesh and blood they were before a bunch of star gods ate their souls and turned them into robots. Prepare to cry.
After those, I cannot recommend the Twice Dead King duology highly enough. Oltyx, an exiled prince attempts to save his dynasty from destruction while battling his own creeping madness. He's got an adorable crush on his hot best friend. The voices in his head were put there on purpose so its fine. Well most of them were. Everything is fine. I didn't cry multiple times reading these...
Then refer to my reading guide for the good short stories and boom! The wonderful world of gay undead space robots is open before you.
I accept full responsibilities for my actions. If you die I promise to say mostly nice things at your funeral.
*mini rant, but I honestly think the Horus Heresy is one of the worst ways to introduce someone to the 40k world. It's a series with like 70 books! Many of them are bad! You need a flowchart to keep track of the timeline! I know there's some good books and characters, power to all who love the HH, but it is not newbie friendly! Also it only has humans which robs you of some of the best parts of the setting (like...y'know. Necrons). Ease people in, then they can make an informed decision about tackling the mountain of buff space men with daddy issues shooting each other.
#answering asks#necrons#warhammer 40k#wh40k#the infinite and the divine#severed#really the overlap in the venn diagram of Transformers Fans and Necron Fans is pretty big in my experience#we love our genocidal divorced robots#I could use more genocidal divorced robots in my life...#I should try out transformers...

So im a big fan of your works and Ennui looks great. I dont know any 40k lore though and Im interested in learning some. Do you have any recommendations for how to do so? ( I looked up warhammer 40k lore on yt and was bombarded with like 20 videos each an hr long with millions of views)
I'm happy to hear you love my work! Sadly, there isn't really a quick way to learn Warhammer 40k lore because, true to space-opera style stories, the lore is just very dense.
I would recommend Bricky's videos on 'Every Single Warhammer Faction' because he does a pretty okay job of explaining all the factions and the scifi world at large, giving a pretty solid shallow overview of the entire universe without doing a crazy loredump.

So I was just watching a lore video by Bricky, and he's talking about Vulkan, calls him "a very huggy boy" and I look at the art in the background of the shot and I think to myself "That's definitely Tage's art, right?"
Rogal deserves more hugs. And more emotions.
Some time ago I gave you "sad Dorn", now have "Vulkan giving Dorn a comfort-hug"!
(Come here, good people of Tumblr! Come here and see the worst picture of Rogal Dorn one Warhammer fan-guy on Instagram has ever seen! Be amazed by how he's "feminized" and how he would "never have emotions"!)

Hey as a fellow Adeptus Mechanicus lover and a professional lore enjoyer I just wanted to share some advice regarding lore. Yes it's a confusing cluster fuck, but that just means you'll never run out of things to learn. If you wanna get into lore I say just pick what interests you most and learn about that. If you're going for the most entry-level videos (highly recommend it) try Adeptus Ridiculous or Bricky's faction summaries. Both are really funny with Ridiculous being also a podcast that can be easily listened to.
After that I then move on to the wikis or videos from Luetin or reading books.
If at any point you see something you don't understand, a seemingly important thing/character, or just some random tid-bit you find interesting feel free to fling yourself down that rabbithole instead.
Trust me it's a lot more fun and a lot less daunting than you think. Besides if you find a certain piece of lore dull go ahead and ignore it no one is forcing to learn about 40k for a grade. Lore in this series being long, fickle, and convoluted is kinda the point and there's no one way to enjoy so just have fun with, and keep following those rabbitholes just keep an eye on the clock because you will get absorbed otherwise.
Thank you for the recs! Most of my knowledge so far comes from whatever info about it my cousin fed me when I was a kid, writing a text analysis about the intro of the mechanicus game for school, and whatever I gather amidst the word salad when I go through r/grimdank, so there's... let's say there's plot holes.
I'm 100% down to read some long fickle convoluted lore, but I don't really want to buy a huge brick of a book and realize I picked a boring one and I'd have liked another type of long fickle convoluted lore better, yknow.
#my ideal way to absorb warhammer lore would be get a bf/gf/jf who infodumps to me#alas i don't hang out in any warhammer-adjacent circle irl (yet) so this is doomed to fail#asks#a-fearful-ace#saved#to remember the recs later

I love 40k, and I love the lore, but bricky said it best when he said something to the effect of "40k lore is super awesome but also written by an edgy 14 year old". I wanna write lore for a custom cult since flavor in narrative kill team is just for fun, but it's hard to also not sound like an edgy 14 year old. Anyways my nurgle cult are all about bugs and eating them due to famine on their home farm planet and one thing lead to another and they see the bugs as saviors sent by nurgle instead of the things that killed all the crops in the first place

I think this is part of something Bricky mentioned.
Vtubers are watching Warhammer lore and reacting to it.
Note, the gatekeeper have no problem with the anime girls coming in, just the gays and trans.

Bricky (Trackpad)
I began playing around more with colors. The character here is Dr. Schumann Brickbox. He has lore, but I’m not exposing it here, in case another project becomes an outlet.

I recently saw this YouTube channel on my recommended tab, comprised of previous Warframe YouTubers, that research and tell stories about the lore of Warhammer 40,000. I'm really glad to see that the people I used to watch as reference material for Warframe are branching out and doing something different, something that I am also fond of.
I like the name of the channel because the word Adeptus is a commonly used word by the Imperium of Man, and they used the word ridiculous because the stories/lore that they are telling is over the top and simply ridiculous.
Seeing this channel makes me happy.

Watching Bricky of Adeptus Ridiculous playing.
He is in hard mode and still gibbing cultists with one shot of the bolter.
And a clip of ammo to kill a chaos space marine.
Seems pretty lore accurate.
Also, this is Space Marine 1.5, because we are in Gria, taking care of some of the chaos fall out from Captain Titus adventure... And our marine even references him in a taunt.
I like that Boltgun uses a firstborn marine.
And he is a Sternguard with beaky helmet!
